Political alienation is a feeling of estrangement, even rejection, experienced by a citizen vis-à-vis the political system in force. In representative democracies, this condition often leads to abstention in elections.

Political alienation should not be confused with voter apathy, which describes a person's indifference to voting and/or the voting process. They feel underrepresented by those running for office; their best interests or concerns not being taken into account.

L'aliénation politique est un sentiment d'éloignement, voire de rejet, éprouvé par un citoyen vis-à-vis du système politique en vigueur. Dans les démocraties représentatives, cette condition conduit souvent à l'abstention aux élections.

L'aliénation politique ne doit pas être confondue avec l'apathie des électeurs, qui décrit l'indifférence d'une personne au vote et/ou au processus de vote. Ils ont le sentiment d'être sous-représentés par ceux qui se présentent aux élections ; leur meilleur intérêt ou leurs préoccupations n'étant pas pris en compte.

يجب تمييز الاغتراب السياسي عن عدم اكتراث الناخبين الذي يعبّر عن لامبالاة الشخص في التصويت و/أو عملية الانتخاب. أنه شعور بأنهم غير ممثيلين فعلياً من أي من المرشحين للانتخابات حيث ان أفكارهم أو اهتماماتهم لم تؤخذ بعين الاعتبار
